Morgan Co. Tourism Day Ramps Up Burr Oak Lodge Renovations
< < Back to morgan-co-tourism-day-ramps-burr-oak-lodge-renovationsMorgan County is having a celebration this weekend and tourism is the reason why.
The Burr Oak State Park is hosting "Celebrating Tourism in Morgan County Day" and it's all in preparation for renovations at the Burr Oak Lodge.
Deana Clark, director of the Morgan County Visitors Bureau, says that the renovations are going to bring in more than just a makeover for the lodge.
"When the lodge closed, there were about 40 employees at the time, and the lodge was struggling, you know, their occupancy rate was low. But now, with the makeover and all the new marketing that U.S. Hotels has plans coming in the next year we're hopeful that those 40 jobs will turn into 60 or 80," said Clark.
The lodge closed in January due to lack of use and poor conditions.
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources announced last month they would pump $2 million in to the facility.
U.S. Hotels is working on the project, and will release a marketing plan soon.
The lodge is expected to re-open by October.
