OU Faculty Artwork Showcased at Baker Center
< < Back to ou-faculty-artwork-showcased-baker-centerColagiovanni, Harper, Keough, Kessel, Rice, Schoenhoff and Young are soon-to-be familiar names at Ohio University and in the Athens arts community.
These new OU faculty members' experiences, backgrounds and creative talents shine through at the School of Art New Faculty Exhibit, currently on display at Trisolini Gallery.
The exhibit features a diverse range of creativity, with mediums ranging from video to rice paper and wood to make up 17 different works that showcase the personal style of each artist.
Since he was a child, wood shop technician Jason Tanner Young has had a desire for building. Whether it's working with wood and steel or tinkering with objects such as pliers and fishing poles, Young incorporates his past experiences into his work, which includes his featured exhibit pieces, Get A Handle and Depending on Landmarks.
"I hope to bring a fresh perspective coming from a different place and a different background," said Young.
In the case of Colleen Keough, visiting assistant professor of transdisciplinary art, her Irish heritage shines through in her piece Passage. The multichannel video installation recognizes the Irish immigration to the U.S. and the hardships that were endured.
"It’s really just kind of about my own personal connection to the land," commented Keough.
The new faculty members' aim is to broaden the perception and perspectives of students and push young artists outside their normal boundaries. Past experiences, backgrounds and personal styles are factors of influence they hope to pass on.
The School of Art New Faculty Exhibit runs through Saturday, Oct. 13 at Trisolini Galllery, located on the fourth floor of Baker University Center. Visit www.finearts.ohio.edu/art/galleries for more information.
