Gallipolis Officer Shot During Domestic Disturbance Call

Law enforcement arrested 28-year-old Cole Miller Monday morning following the shooting of Gallipolis police officer Jamie Bartels.
Bartels responded to a domestic disturbance call on McCormick Road in Gallipolis Township around 12:30 a.m.
When Bartels got to the scene, deputies say Miller, shot Bartels in the upper torso.
Bartels is expected to make a full recovery following surgery for his injuries.
Miller is being held on a felonious assault charge, as well as attempted aggravated murder and attempted aggravated burglary, according to the sheriff’s office website.
UPDATE 9:25 A.M. A Gallipolis police officer shot while responding to a domestic disturbance call is now out of surgery and is expected to recover.
According to the police department’s Facebook page, Officer James Bartles will be in the intensive care unit for observation for a short time.
Bartles will also require physical therapy for the wound he received in his shoulder.

Gallipolis Police Chief Clint Patterson says Officer James Bartles was shot in the shoulder and is in surgery at Cabell Huntington Hospital.
Patterson says Bartles is in stable condition.
Officer Bartles, along with other law enforcement, was responding to a domestic call on McCormick Road, just outside of Gallipolis, when he was shot about 1 a.m. Monday.
The Gallia County Sheriff’s Department says Cole Miller has been taken into custody following the shooting. No charges have been filed at this time.
Authorities say Miller was having a dispute with his eight-month pregnant girlfriend.
Police were called when Miller shot at a car.
