Athens Bulldogs’ New Stadium Makes Debut
< < Back to athens-bulldogs-new-stadium-makes-debutLast year a tornado destroyed the home of the Athens High School football team, Basil Rutter Field. Although the one year anniversary of the unfortunate event approaches, the community was full of excitement this past Friday for the Bulldogs' first home game. The Bulldogs played on Basil Rutter Field for the first time since the tornado, and took down Coal Grove 48-14. The team looked good and so did the new stadium. The facility includes a new press box, concession stand, score board, and a new field made of turf just to name a few improvements. And, it was all made possible by donations from the community. Donors names can be found on bricks inside the stadium on a beautiful new brick wall.
Gridiron Glory spoke to some fans at the Bulldogs' first home game to recall the tornado, and find out what's their favorite aspect of the new stadium. Tune into our show on the one year anniversary of the tornado, September 16, 2011, for a full story featuring the new stadium!
