Chinese Cultural Center Opens In Athens
< < Back to chinese-cultural-center-opens-athensThere's a new place for people to learn Chinese in Athens for children and adults alike.
The Athens Chinese Culture Center celebrated its opening Sunday.
Music, traditional food and dress were all a part of the festivities.
The idea of the center started with owner, Sue Chen, teaching Chinese lessons in her home.
But increased demand led to the culture center.
Classes are available for all age groups.
Athens Mayor Paul Wiehl and Ohio State Representative Debbie Phillips both attended the opening.
Phillips says places like these are important.
"With an increasingly global economy, it's important that young people, in particular, have the understanding of cultures and the ability to communicate with people around the world," said Phillips.
Classes go beyond the Chinese language to include tai chi, cooking and caligraphy.
The center is located on Richland Avenue.
