OU Releases Info For Obama Visit
< < Back to ou-releases-info-obama-visitDespite tightened security and road closures around Ohio University for President Obama's visit Wednesday, the campus will remain open and classes will still be held.
In a message to OU staff and students, Executive Vice President and Provost Pam Benoit listed several bulletpoints of key information regarding the president's visit.
Benoit says a security perimeter will be established around College Green, where the event is scheduled to take place.
Buildings located on the Green will be shut down by 11 a.m. Wednesday, including Cutler Hall, McGuffey Hall, Wilson Hall and Chubb Hall.
Benoit says although Chubb Hall will not be accessible, the Bursar, Registrar and Financial aid staff will be available by phone or email.
She also states that the security perimeter will alter normal foot and traffic patterns, forcing students and faculty to take alternate paths to reach their destinations.
Benoit says all lots located next to Park Place, University Terrace, East Union, and South Court Streets will be closed.
Baker surface lots and the Baker Center garage will be closed to those who do not have a regular university parking pass.
Peden Stadium parking will only be open to attendees of the event that have a ticket.
According to an OU news release, parts of Union Street, South Court Street, University Terrace, and South College Street will be closed beginning at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.
The campaign event is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m., but entry to the event will start around 3 p.m.
According to the release, people attending the event will start lining up at Court Street, with the line snaking west down President Street and Union Street.
All attendees will go through airport-like security and are advised by the university to bring as few personal items as possible.
College Green will be closed from 11 a.m. to the conclusion of the event on Wednesday.
