The South Charleston Black Falcons, having an impressive game on both sides of the ball, defeated the Parkersburg Big Reds Friday night, 41-21.
Parkersburg started off the game strong as the Black Falcon’s struggled with encroachment calls twice on their first drive. It was when Big Red’s quarterback Aaron Roberts tossed up a pass intercepted by South Charleston’s Jon Alexander that the game changed. This gave way to Marquel Hampton’s touchdown reception, which was the first of many for South Charleston.
Parkersburg worked back up the field for their second drive running the ball with Adam Lindamood who carried the ball 40 times for 267 rushing yards.
The drive was disrupted by another Black Falcon interception. This led to another South Charleston touchdown on a massive 58-yard run for freshman quarterback Kentre Grier, leaving the score at 14-0 at the end of the first quarter.
Grier ended the game with an efficient night of throwing as well, completing 10-of-13 passes for 234 passing yards
After a long drive led by the run game, Parkersburg got back into the game with a nine-yard rushing touchdown from Lindamood. After another touchdown from the Black Falcons’ Ken Haynes Jr., the teams went to the locker room with South Charleston leading 20-7.
The third quarter proved to be high scoring when early on the Black Falcon’s Grier completed a 50-yard touchdown pass to Kevin Forrest, who ended the night with three receptions for 135 yards and two touchdowns. South Charleston scored again on an 80-yard Trevond Reese punt return.
Parkersburg answered back continuing to chip away at the run game with a 2-yard rushing touchdown for Lindamood and an 11-yard touchdown run for Aaron Roberts.
Going into the fourth quarter the Big Reds only trailed 34-21, but South Charleston’s Grier completed a 68-yard touchdown pass to solidify the game at its final score of 40-21.
With this high scoring win, the Black Falcon’s improved their record to 6-4. The Big Reds saw their record fall to 4-5.
