Cross Country: Accurso Wins NCAA Regional Event in Record Time
< < Back to cross-country-accurso-wins-ncaa-regional-event-record-timeJunior Juli Accurso captured her third first-place finish of the season Friday to lead Ohio Women's Cross Country to a 12th place finish overall at the Great Lakes Regional event in Wisconsin Friday. With a time of 20:07, Accurso became the first runner in Ohio history to win an NCAA Regional event and set a school record for fastest race.
The win follows up Accurso's 12th place finish in the same event last year as she qualifies for the NCAA Championship for the second year in a row. Accurso is only the second MAC runner in history to get an individual title in a regional event.
Ohio finished 12th overall out of 32 teams in this event with a total of 373 points.
Sophomore Morgan Reichert came in second for the Bobcats with a time of 22:04 to finish 87th place overall. Following right behind her was junior Morgan Meade in 88th place with a time of 22:05. Rounding out the top five for the 'Cats was freshman Kayla Scott and junior Melissa Thompson finishing 96th and 101st with times of 22:12 and 22:15 respectively.
Accurso will race in the 2012 National Event in Louisville on Nov. 17 to represent Ohio University.
