Ousted SupCo Justice Not Seeking New Seat
< < Back toAn Ohio Supreme Court justice who lost a re-election bid says he won't apply to be appointed to a different seat on the court.
Justice Robert Cupp, a Republican from Lima first elected in 2006, lost to Democratic challenger William O'Neill on Nov. 6.
Cupp says the court has several cases to be decided this year that involve the state of Ohio or significant policy or political impact.
Cupp says he doesn't want it to appear that his decisions in these cases are influenced by a desire to have Gov. John Kasich appoint him to a vacant seat.
The vacancy opened up after Justice Evelyn Lundberg Stratton announced she was retiring from the court this year.
