Southeast Ohio Schools Competing For Federal Grant

A network of 15 rural school districts in Southeast Ohio is in the running for millions of dollars in federal funding.
The group is called the Ohio Appalachian Personalized Learning Network Collaborative and it includes Wolf Creek and Warren Local in Washington County.
It's among 61 finalists in a national competition that will provide a total of $400 million.
The U.S. Department of Education is expected to announce 15 to 20 winners by year's end.
They each will get $5 to $40 million over a four year period.
The Ohio Appalachian Personalized Learning Network Collaborative would use the grant to offer everyday use of online and on-demand learning platforms.
Additionally, the grant would expand offering courses that provide students both high school and college credit.
The Appalachian Collaborative is one of three Ohio finalists. Cleveland schools and the Reynoldsburg district in suburban Columbus are the other two.
Some of the other districts in the Collaborative are Rolling Hills, Morgan Local and Maysville Local, which is the lead education agency.
