Redistricting Proposal To Be Voted On Today

An Ohio House committee is expected to vote Wednesday on whether to approve a Republican-backed plan for remapping the state's U.S. House districts.
Democrats and voter advocacy groups criticized the map for splitting Ohio's 88 counties in as many as 63 places and creating oddly shaped districts. Among them are a district snaking along Lake Erie from Toledo to Cleveland and a crescent that touches parts of 13 counties.
State legislators were handed the task of creating new boundaries when Ohio's declining population lost it two U.S. House districts.
Elections Committee chairman Matt Huffman has defended the map, saying it meets all legal and constitutional guidelines.
If passed out of committee, the map goes to the Ohio House floor. It still has to be voted on by the state Senate.
