Unlocked Cars Targeted By Thieves Near Athens
< < Back to unlocked-cars-targeted-thieves-near-athensResidents living along Poston and Hartman Roads in Athens found their unlocked vehicles had been visited by thieves during the night this weekend.
Athens County Sheriff Pat Kelly said his office is investigating a number of items was taken from those vehicles.
In one case a red, 2002 Toyota Corolla, license number FEE4291 had been stolen during the night.
The vehicle was unlocked and a broken key was left in the ignition.
The vehicle has a dent in the rear passenger side fender.
On Saturday morning the Sheriff said a resident of State Route 691 reported their garage door had been damaged and that the door had red paint on it.
It appears the stolen vehicle was used in an attempt to open the garage door but an alarm was activated and scared off the intruders.
The vehicle has not been recovered and the Sheriff’s office is requesting anyone with information contact 911.
