Student Lands CNN Internship

Regina Donizetti, a 2011 Dover High School graduate, is heading to the bright lights of New York after receiving an internship from CNN with “Anderson Cooper 360.”
The Ohio University sophomore, who is a TV producer, anchor and reporter for WOUB-TV on the Athens campus, has landed a paid internship, which begins Monday and runs about three months to the end of April.
Donizetti is studying broadcast journalism at Ohio University’s E.W. Scripps School of Journalism.
"I really believe one of the reasons I was selected is because of the school and what I’ve had the opportunity to do at WOUB,” said Donizetti, who hopes to become a producer for a major New York television station one day.
Producing the 5:30 newscast each day for WOUB-TV has given Donizetti valuable experience, she said. And she has done it all in a short period of time.
Only three internships were up for grabs and Donizetti sent her cover letter and résumé to Turner Broadcasting in October. On Jan. 7, she was informed she had been selected for one of the three internships from the many candidates longing for the opportunity.
Donizetti said she is looking forward to getting a shot at contributing to the show … sitting in on meetings and working on story items. CNN has stood out as one of the best news organizations, in her eyes.
How the news is covered always has interested Donizetti. She said making some trips to New York when she was younger had an impact on her. Her father’s family is from New York.
“I grew up going to New York a lot,” Donizetti said. “I loved to watch the news from an early age and see how the reporters worked. I guess I was watching with a different eye than some people.”
Donizetti also has gained experience by working for WJER. Her first broadcast experience came in the summer of 2011 after she graduated from high school. She also worked for the station the following year.
In high school, she was the news section editor for the Crimsonian at Dover High.
All these experiences have led Donizetti to a great opportunity, she said. The internship will allow her to be involved in what she loves — on a much bigger scale.
“I’ve been interested in television, especially news, since I can remember,” she said. “Being a television producer for a station in New York City … that would be a dream come true.”
Donizetti is the daughter of Bill and Maria Donizetti of Dover. Regina has a brother, Michael, who is a senior at Dover High School.
