Athens County Commissioners Offer Free Office Space To Save Jobs

The Athens County Commission has offered free office space to the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services in an effort to keep 47 jobs in Athens County.
In a letter to Gov. John Kasich, commissioners offered the space to house staff from the Payment Analysis and Account Reconciliation Office and urged Kasich to reconsider a plan to move the office.
“The move will be extremely detrimental to the employees and their families affected by this action,” the commissioners wrote. “They are hard-working public servants who deserve better treatment.”
Earlier in January, ODJFS announced it would be relocated the office from The Plains to Columbus. The move would save the agency about $2 million a year but would mean employees would either have to commute or relocate to Columbus.
The consolidation of the PAAR office is part of a larger consolidation project will impact 573 employees across the state and is set to begin this spring.
