TVC-Ohio Teams Fight to Keep Pace in Tight Conference Race
< < Back to tvc-ohio-week-4-game-previewsChillicothe at Athens
Athens was tested by the run earlier this season. They stared down an impressive passing attack last Saturday and responded in fine style. The Bulldogs’ 19-14 win at Warren was thanks in large part to four crowd-quieting picks by the defense. The Green & Gold opened up its bag of tricks on the offensive side as well, lining up quarterback Josh Skinner at wideout. Devon Sharp took plenty of direct snaps, resulting in 82 yards and a touchdown strike through the air along with another 100-yard ground game.
Chillicothe is off to a somewhat surprising three-game losing streak. The Cavaliers come to The Plains following a 42-0 drubbing at the hands of Ironton. They mustered 108 yards passing between the quarterback tandem of Luke Barnes and Ryan Mathis. The defenses once again stake a pivotal role in this outcome. Chillicothe boasts a new potential weapon at quarterback in Aaron Elliot. For the Cavalier defense, the task is yet again slowing down Sharp. Skinner will need to shake off any potential season opening jitters under center, in what is perhaps the biggest non-conference home game for Athens.
Minford at Meigs
Down US-33, Meigs has turned some heads with their early season success. Their 2-1 record has them sitting just outside the three-way deadlock atop the TVC-Ohio. The Marauders are fresh off a sound 22-0 win over River Valley, which showcased a shocking disparity in rushing efficiency. Meigs outgained the Raiders on the ground 407 yards to minus 16. Senior Jeffrey Roush led the rushing attack and has been a staple for the offense.
The Minford Falcons are not short on similarities to their opponents. They’re also riding a 2-1 record and a Week 3 victory. They also posted a 400-plus yard ground game last week. They, too, have multiple 100-yard rushers. Both backfields will be on full display at Bob Roberts Field as Meigs coach Mike Chauncey goes for career win 100.
