West Virginia is getting $1.4 million in emergency relief funds to pay for fixing storm-damaged roads in the state.

Rep. Nick Rahall and Sens. Jay Rockefeller and Joe Manchin announced the award from the U.S. Department of Transportation on Tuesday.

Officials say the money will be used to pay for the repair or reconstruction of federal-aid highways and roads damaged last year.

Work includes emergency repairs needed to restore essential traffic, minimize the extent of damage or protect the remaining facilities. The funds also may be used to make permanent repairs necessary to restore the highway to its pre-disaster condition.
