The Ohio Bobcats' women's basketball team was cold from the field all day Sunday and lost to the Buffalo Bulls, 56-35. The final total of 35 points is a new season-low for Ohio, breaking the previous low of 36, set at Buffalo on Jan. 13.

Ohio (6-19, 1-12 MAC) shot 24 percent from the field and 12 percent from 3, but the team was cold from the start.

Junior guard Shavon Robinson started out 2-of-2 from the field and the rest of the team was 0-of-13 to begin the game.

The shooting did not get any better from that point on. With 3:42 left in the game, Robinson was shooting 5-of-8 from the field and the rest of the team was 6-45 shooting.

“What frustrates me the most about our team sometimes is they need to learn how to play more on the fly,” Bobcats coach Semeka Randall said. “When an opponent takes something away, we might need to go somewhere else and you constantly keep telling your kids, you still got to play basketball.”

Buffalo (9-17, 7-6 MAC) led at halftime, 30-15, and extended the lead in the first four minutes of the second half to 38-20, but Ohio fought back.

The Bobcats held Buffalo without a point for nearly nine minutes in the second half, but could only score six points themselves. Buffalo opened the lead back up to 17 to ice the game.

“(In) the second half, we were down by 12 and missed six free throws in a row,” Randall said. “They could have changed the game. We’re living in that would have, could have, but the simple fact is that we didn’t make those shots.”

Buffalo was led in scoring by Sloane Walton off the bench with 14 points, while Mackenzie Loesing chipped in 12 and Kristen Sharkey added 11.

Ohio only had two players score with consistency, as Robinson finished with 12 points and Erin Bailes had 11.

“Certain players that we need to step up are kind of hesitant,” Robinson said. “It’s kind of frustrating as a player when you’ve seen one of your teammates play so well and see them playing their game, and when they’re not it’s frustrating because we honestly need somebody to step up. It’s kind of frustrating to see lack of confidence in some of our players.”

Ohio will go on the road next and play Akron on Thursday.
