< < Back to late-game-heroics-lead-ohio-softball-winOhio Softball finished off the second leg of its doubleheader at the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga Frost Classic in grand style, winning 8-6 on a walk-off home run by Caitlin Colvin that capped an impressive comeback.
The Bobcats trailed 6-3 with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning when Alyssa Wolfe stroked a single into left-center field, Lex Cortex was hit by a pitch and Alexandria Basquez reached on an error, loading the bases for Lauren Gellerman.
Gellerman delivered a clutch single that drove in two runs and made it a one-run game.
Colvin one-upped Gellerman in the very next at-bat, when the team leader in homeruns hit her seventh in just 13 games. The three-run shot ended the game.
The comeback was the Bobcats’ second of the game. Down 3-0 in the bottom of the third, Ohio tacked on three runs of its own Raven King’s two-run homer was followed up by Amanda Dalton’s walk and a triple by Wolfe.
However, Boston College was able to respond with three runs in the next two frames to build a 6-3 lead.
The Bobcats were playing catch-up nearly the whole game after starting pitcher Kaylin Clarke allowed five earned runs in just 2.1 innings pitched.
Clarke was relieved by Lauren McClary, who quieted the Golden Eagles’ bats. The sophomore allowed just one run in the fourth and then shut out Boston College for the rest of the contest.
Ohio will finish up play at the UTC Frost Classic with a game against another batch of Golden Eagles. The Bobcats will do battle against Tennessee Tech on Sunday at 12:15 p.m.
