Hot Bats Power Ohio Past Oakland, 12-3
< < Back to hot-bats-power-ohio-past-oakland-12-3The Ohio Bobcats (3-9) piled on the offense to win the second game of a Saturday doubleheader with the Oakland Golden Grizzlies (1-8). The Bobcats earned 12 runs on 12 hits to win 12-3. Relief pitcher Sean Kennedy (1-0) earned the win for Ohio on the mound.
Ohio broke the 0-0 tie in the bottom of the third. Tyler Wells stole second after reaching on a fielder’s choice. Jake Madsen blasted a double to left-center field to plate Wells and give Ohio a 1-0 lead.
The Grizzlies struck right back in the top of the fourth inning. Kyle Bobolts doubled to lead off the inning. Mike Carson followed with a single that moved Bobolts to third. A fielder’s choice brought Bobolts home from 90 feet away to tie the game at one.
Oakland nabbed a pair of runs the following inning to take the lead 3-1. The Grizzlies capitalized on two Ohio mistakes in the inning. An error and a balk put on and moved Oakland’s runners into scoring position.
The Bobcats caught fire in the seventh. With one out and two on, Nick Squires doubled in the gap to score Brad Przebieda and Ben Otto, tying the game at three.
After an Oakland pitching change, Wells struck out looking. The Grizzlies intentionally walked Madsen to put its defense in position for a force-out. However, Taylor Emody dropped one in the infield and loaded the bases on a fielder’s choice.
The Bobcats earned a pair of runs when Cody Gaertner drew a walk. Alex Corna was then hit by a pitch, which kept the bases loaded with two outs. Otto came to the plate for the second time in the inning and planted a liner into short left field. Otto legged out a double and cleared the bases with three runs batted in. When the dust settled, Ohio earned an 8-3 lead heading into the eighth.
Ohio scored four more runs in the eighth, to take a 12-3 lead. Scott White and Otto had two RBI apiece in the inning. Otto led Ohio with five RBI on the game, hitting 2-4.
The Bobcats lost the earlier contest of its Saturday doubleheader with Oakland 6-4. However, Ohio improved both its offense and defense in the second game to come away with the win. The Bobcats and Golden Grizzlies still have one game left as a part of their three-game series. The two face off again Sunday at 1 p.m.
