2017 Spudtactular Seed Potato Giveaway

March 15, 2017 @ 12:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Free

Community Food Initiatives (CFI) will host their annual Spudtacular Seed Potato give-away at ACEnet on 94 Columbus Road in Athens, OH. There will be over 40,000 pounds of seed potatoes available and free to the public between 12pm and 6pm.

The seed potato give-away is supported in part by Jackson Area Ministries, who coordinates the delivery. These potatoes are not for eating, but for planting, ready to harvest after 100 days. To plant seed potatoes, cut them into halves or quarters and bury 2-3 inches down in the soil and about 6 inches apart. Harvest after 100 days and expect 6-10 potatoes for each seed potato planted. Participants of the give-away are encouraged to Grow-A-Row for the CFI Donation Station, helping feed those in need in Southeast Ohio.

CFI will also host seed giveaways at Athens County Public Library branches and community gardens, starting the week of April 17th. A plant-start give-away will occur in early May. Details of these and other community events are available at www.communityfoodinitiatives.org or on the CFI Facebook page.
