Home Fire Safety Visits

July 15, 2017 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

Free

The Racine Fire Department and American Red Cross volunteers will install free smoke detectors and offer preparedness information in Meigs County on Saturday, July 15, 2017.

Firefighters and Red Cross volunteers will go door-to-door in the Portland area of Meigs County, beginning at 10 a.m. that day, and continuing to mid-afternoon. The 10-year smoke detectors are free, and will be installed by firefighters and trained Red Cross volunteers.

Information on preparedness and planning to escape if a fire should hit the home, will be offered to the residents. This is a joint  effort of the American Red Cross and area fire departments, and is done with one purpose: to save lives. Nationwide, the American Red Cross reports that more than 200 lives have been saved when residents heard warnings from free smoke detectors installed through the Red Cross program.
