This presentation will focus on American Ginseng, a famous plant that grows naturally in the rolling hills of Southeast Ohio. Due to heavy harvesting of Ginseng over the last two centuries, the species is threatened. We will go through the life history of Ginseng, some of its medicinal uses and cultural importance, and touch on how anyone with the right habitat can actually grow ginseng. We will also touch on some other valuable medicinal plants in our region such as Goldenseal, also known as Yellow Root.
