Lyceum Luncheon Speaker Series: furnaces of Southeast Ohio
February 20 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Lyceum Luncheon Speaker Series Starts back up for 2025
The Southeast Ohio History Center is restarting it Lyceum Luncheon Speaker Series for 2025 with a presentation of the iron furnaces of Southeast Ohio on Thursday, February 20 at noon. Tom O’Grady, from the History Center, will kick off the brown bag speaker series with a presentation entitled Stone Pyramids of Southeast Ohio Forests: Iron Furnaces Helped Build America.
More than 60 iron furnaces were built between the Ohio River and Hocking County in the Hanging Rock Region of Ohio. Small towns grew up around the iron furnaces while the forests disappeared. Few remnants of this important industry survive into the 21st century.
The Lyceum Luncheon speaker series is held at the History Center on the third Thursday each month at noon. The History Center is located at 24 West State Street with limited parking in the rear off North Congress.
