Multicultural Genealogical Center speaker & light lunch

October 7, 2023 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Free

Talcon Quinn is a folk artist whose family has called Southeast Ohio home for countless generations.  She focuses on cultivating a new view of Appalachia by teaching and celebrating the collective heritage of the Southeast Ohio landscape.

Roots of Athens County is a community art project that weaves the oral histories of three Athens County Elders:  Cecil Tabler, Charlie Bond and Geraldine “Tootsie” Tabler into a short film and three baskets.  Talcon worked in collaboration with filmmakers Yaphet Jackman and Dusty Jenkins to awaken memories through the traditional art form of basketry and encapsulate these memories into the modern medium of film.  Talcon will briefly introduce the film, share the baskets she wove, and afterward, share current community endeavors that will soon be underway to help preserve the oral histories of our region.
