OhioHealth UpBEAT History Group: Marks of Time: Preserving and Adapting the Work of Local Historian W. E. Peters
January 11 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
FreeRegional histories cannot survive without the work of dedicated individuals who seek to document and preserve both past and present. Local resident and historian William E. Peters (1857-1952) is prominent among those who have contributed to such efforts in southeast Ohio. His legacy includes one of the most comprehensive records of Athens County history. This presentation will introduce the life and legacy of W. E. Peters. Erin Wilson from the Mahn Center for Archives and Special Collections will join us and describe recent work with the Peters collection which includes digitization, crowdsourced transcription and the development of an interactive map. RSVP is required for joining program in-person. Virtual attendance is also available. UpBEAT (Be Educated and Active Together) is a program for those 55 years and over. Membership is free. To sign up to receive our monthly UpBEAT newsletter, RSVP, or with questions please contact Mary Jane Timmons, UpBEAT Program Coordinator by phone at 740-566-4680 or e-mail at MaryJane.Timmons@OhioHealth.com.
