OhioHealth UpBEAT History Group: World War II Strategy and the Media

January 12, 2023 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Free
Upbeat's logo, with the organization's name in turquoise and purple.

Join us virtually, by telephone or computer device, or in-person as we explore the influence of the press on strategy and command decisions during World War II. During the war, both Allied and Axis nations attempted to employ the press as a weapon. This usually took the form of using the media to improve morale, inspire soldiers and keep the home front informed. As the war continued, however, the press began influencing the battlefield decisions of military commanders. This talk is adapted from the speaker’s book, The Media Offensive: How the American Press Shaped Allied Strategy during World War II. Presented by: Dr. Alexander G. Lovelace. UpBEAT (Be Educated and Active Together) is a program for those aged 55 years and over. Membership is free. To sign up to receive our monthly UpBEAT newsletter, to learn how you can join us virtually (by phone or technology device) or RSVP for attending the program in-person (RSVP taken on first come, first serve basis as space is limited), contact Caitlin Bond, UpBEAT Program Coordinator by phone at 740-566-4680 or e-mail at Caitlin.Bond@ohiohealth.com.
