Third Thursday Talk: Rooted in Marietta: The World War I Service of Beman Gates Dawes, Jr. – By Sarah Aisenbrey

April 20, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

$4 – $5

Beman Gates Dawes, Jr., the oldest child of the founders of The Dawes Arboretum in Newark, Ohio, was one of the well-renowned “sons” of Marietta when he attended Marietta College. In 1917, Beman, Jr. took a bold step with a handful of his fellow classmates to enter the First World War… even before Congress declared the United States’ entrance into the conflict. Join The Dawes Arboretum’s Archivist Sarah Aisenbrey to learn more about Beman’s war service through never-before-seen photographs, letters, and artifacts.
