Village of Glouster to Celebrate New Walking Path With a Party in the Park
May 13, 2023 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Glouster, Ohio – The Village of Glouster will host a community party to celebrate the opening of the new walking path at Glouster Memorial Park. Community members of all ages are welcome to attend.
The Party in the Park will take place at Glouster Memorial Park on Saturday, May 13, from 1-3 p.m. Everyone is welcome to stop by and try the park’s new water fountain and bottle filler, which is located adjacent to the walking path. Free water bottles will be available while supplies last. A mini running race for kids 10 years and younger will take place at 1:30 p.m., with free registration starting at 1 p.m. The Flipside Skateboard Shop will host a skateboard demo with local riders and friends at 2 p.m. Village officials will be grilling hot dogs and popping popcorn for attendees throughout this free event, which also will feature chalk drawing and games.
Other new park amenities include a restroom facility and a new shelter house donated by Appalachian Color in the Hills and constructed by Cody Kovach, Roy Hogsett and Zach Walton.
Physical activity is the leading health indicator and one of the top strategies for preventing disease, reducing risk factors for diseases and conditions, and treating obesity and other chronic diseases.
The walking path at Glouster Memorial Park provides a new opportunity for community members to be physically active. And, because the path is wide, smooth, and relatively flat, it makes the park accessible to people who previously had challenges walking on the grass. “Community members who use wheelchairs, walkers and strollers now have a much easier time getting around the park,” said Glouster Mayor Sam Sikorski.
The new restroom facility, which is a duplex building serving both the park and Glouster Memorial Stadium, was funded through CDBG funds on the park side and Trimble Local Schools on the stadium side. The Athens City-County Health Department’s Creating Healthy Communities program contributed funds to connect the new walking path with the new restroom facility, and for the new accessible water fountain and bottle filler.
