Ohio University’s Master of Fine Arts in Ceramics ranks fifth in the nation according to U.S. News & World Report.
The program secured its place in the Specialties section of the Master of Fine Arts category in national graduate school rankings that were released today.
"The fact that our U.S. News & World Report program rankings continue to advance speaks to the very high quality of our programs and to the expertise and dedication of our faculty and staff," said College of Fine Arts (CoFA) Interim Dean Madeleine Scott. The CoFA houses the Ceramics program.
The ceramics program has been ranked fifth, up three spots from the previous ranking of eighth in the nation, and has been ranked nationally by U.S. News & World Report for the last 16 years.
Another College of Fine Arts graduate program, Printmaking, also received national attention, receiving a rank of 14, up from the previous rank of 20. The Printmaking Program has been ranked nationally by U.S. News & World Report for the last 11 years.
In addition to the two program rankings, the School of Art (College of Fine Arts) itself was ranked 53rd nationally among fine arts graduate schools, up five spots the previous rank of 58. The School of Art (College of Fine Arts) has been ranked nationally by U.S. News & World Report for the last 16 years.
According to U.S. News & World Report, the rankings are based on peer assessments and ratings. Knowing that makes OHIO’s placements even more rewarding, according to Scott.
"The recognition of our peers, which is based on their knowledge of their field and the achievement of our graduates, is especially gratifying," she said.
U.S. News & World Report annually ranks 206 art schools across the United States, making it an elite group.
At 53rd, the Ohio University School of Art is the 2nd highest ranked Fine Arts program in Ohio, behind Ohio State (18th), but above University of Cincinnati (62nd), Cleveland Institute of Art (72nd), Columbus College of Art and Design and Kent State University (tied at 82nd), Miami University (93rd) and Bowling Green State University (114th). Other Ohio art programs are not ranked.
