Last season was Dirk Lincicome’s first as head coach of the Philo Electrics. He led the Electrics to a 6-4 record, their first winning record since they went 6-4 back in 2000. Philo is shooting to establish themselves as a new threat in the MVL, a league that has been dominated by Tri-Valley and Sheridan in recent years. Lincicome says if that is to happen, the Electrics will need their offense to step up. Last season Philo averaged 14.7 points per game, but allowed 17 ppg. Lincicome says the coaching staff is expecting big things from senior wide receiver Justin Thrush. Fellow senior, Nick Dorman is returning as the starting quarterback. The opposite side of the ball is where Lincicome thinks the Electrics are strongest.

Philo only allowed 7 ppg over the last three games of the 2010 campaign and return key senior defenders with linebacker Shayne Tanner and lineman Corey Elson. Philo finished last season in third place behind Sheridan and Tri-Valley. Lincicome called it a “distant third” and in addition to repeating last year’s winning record, his squad aims to upset the league’s top dogs. “We don’t want to look to far ahead,” says Lincicome. “But the guys would really like to beat one of those guys (Sheridan and Tri-Valley).” Another positive aspect for Philo is they are a senior-laden team. Expect the seniors to play with poise and experience as they try to go out with a bang. Their season kicks off when they host Warren.
