Tri-Valley Scotties Preview
< < Back to tri-valley-scotties-previewTri-Valley comes into the season aiming to capture their sixth consecutive winning season and fifth playoff appearance during that time. Justin Buttermore returns as the head coach of the Scotties, who finished last season as runners up to Sheridan and return most of their starters from that 9-3 campaign. Junior quarterback Nathan Strock headlines those returning starters. Strock, who threw for over 1900 yards last year as a first-time starter, will have plenty of targets on offense. Junior running back Austin Jones returns following a 1000 yard season and senior Matt Amicone aims to become the new top receiver.
Despite the bright outlook for his squad, Buttermore cited their lack of depth as an area of concern. “Our depth is not very good, especially on the offensive and defensive lines,” said Buttermore. “We also have lots of two-way players.” Buttermore said the coaching staff is working on developing younger players in the event of injuries. In spite of these worries, Buttermore said his team has the same goals for this season: win the MVL and make the playoffs. After last season’s two horse race between Tri-Valley and Sheridan, Buttermore expects the MVL to be more wide open this year. “Sheridan is good year in and year out, but you can’t count out New Lexington with their tradition,” said Buttermore. “And Philo has a good group of players coming through. One thing is for sure; expect an exciting season of football in Dresden.
