< < Back toInvestigators in Lawrence County are trying to identify a body found in a recycling center this morning.
Sheriff's deputies were called to Rumpke Waste and Recycling Services in Ironton around 10:30 a.m.
The body was discovered inside a pile of recyclable cardboard.
Investigators believe the body was picked up on a route that included Cabell County, West Virginia, Boyd County, Kentucky and Lawrence County, Ohio.
The cardboard was collected on Saturday and deposited in the Rumpke building the same day.
"The body appears to be a white male of medium build with a gray beard. We have contacted the authorities in Cabell County and Boyd County to see if they have any reports of a missing person. No one we have contacted has reported back to us as of yet," said Sheriff Jeff Lawless.
"The cause of death and the man's identity remain under investigation," he said.
The body is being taken to Franklin County, Ohio for an autopsy at the coroner's office.
Lawless says anyone with information should call the sheriff's department.
