Update:Bank Robbery Suspect Not Found In Old Elementary School
< < Back toAthens Police say a robbery suspect was not found in an old elementary school on Richland Avenue.
Investigators searched the old Morrison Elementary School this afternoon after someone told police that a man matching the description of a bank robber went into the building.
The building, which is now an office building, was evacuated.
But, everyone was permitted back inside once the building was cleared.
The WesBanco at 505 Richland Avenue is located right next to the old elementary school and was robbed this afternoon.
Captain Ralph Harvey says it happened around 12:45 p.m.
The suspect is described as a man in his twenties, wearing a dark flannel shirt, jeans and a dark ball cap.
He was not wearing a mask.
Police say they believe the suspect handed a note to a teller saying he had a weapon and demanding money. However, the suspect never showed a weapon to anyone in the bank.
The FBI is involved with the investigation.
Police hope to release a picture of the suspect later today.
