Ironton City School District Closes After Bomb Threat
< < Back to ironton-city-school-district-closes-after-bomb-threatThere is no school in the Ironton City School District today.
That's because a bomb threat was called in and the caller made references to gang affiliation from New Orleans, Louisiana.
A Lawrence County Sheriff's Department news release says the decision was made to send students and staff throughout the district home as a precautionary measure.
Sheriff Jeff Lawless contacted the Ohio Department of Homeland Security.
The cell phone was traced to a person in New Orleans.
The registered owner of the phone told authorities that they gave the phone to a nephew in Ironton.
Authorities say a 12-year-old, 6th grade student admitted to making the call and was arrested.
He told investigators he made the call because he thought it would be fun.
The juvenile is being charged with inducing panic, making terroristic threats and tampering with evidence.
