The Bobcats defeated the Georgia State Panthers 3-1 in their first of Saturday’s games at the Georgia Southern Volleyball Tournament.

The first set went point for point until a kill from Chelsea Bilger got the points rolling on the Ohio side. The Bobcats took a five point lead, but were steadily gained on by Georgia State.  The Panthers managed to tie the Bobcats at game point, forcing the match into overtime. Ohio won the first set 28-26.

The Bobcats and Panthers went into the second set fighting for a lead. In yet another close set, the biggest lead Georgia State had over Ohio was only four points, but the Bobcats pushed through to win the second set 25-21.

Georgia State came back strong and jumped to an early 6-1 lead in the third set. The Bobcats continued to steadily score points, but were not able to get a run big enough to match the Panthers’ lead. With kills coming from a variety of Georgia State players, the Bobcats were unable to catch them, and Georgia State took set three 25-16.

The fourth set was another point-for-point battle between the Bobcats and the Panthers. Numerous kills by Chelsea Bilger kept the momentum for the Bobcats. Georgia State was again able to come from behind and bring the match to a tie at game point. Pushing into overtime for the second match in this game, Ohio won the fourth and final set 27-25.

Chelsea Bilger lead the team in kills with 20, scoring eight in the fourth set alone. Mollie Geske had a stand out 22 digs for the Bobcats. Vineece Verdun had 15 kills for Georgia State, while Jamiee Freeman and Loren Byerly had 13 digs.

The Bobcats will play in their second game of the day at the Georgia Southern Volleyball Tournament at 4:00 p.m. Saturday against Presbyterian.
