Big Reds Return Home for Red Dragons Showdown
< < Back to big-reds-return-home-red-dragons-showdownParkersburg is coming off its first loss of the season against Huntington, but Don Reeves’ team is still in good position for a Class AAA playoff berth.
The Big Reds take on St. Albans this Friday, a squad that Reeves describes as Parkersburg’s biggest, most physical opponent of the year.
“Their offensive line averages 280 pounds, with guys that are 6-1, 6-2, so they know how to open holes and be powerful.”
The Red Dragons won their first game of the season last week against Nitro, but Reeves takes the season one game at a time. He is preparing as hard for St. Albans as he would if they were better than their 1-3 record.
The Big Reds will have to cope without their top two tailbacks and top wide receiver because of injuries, but several players have already stepped up their games.
“Alex Ash knows how to lead our spread offense well, it’s good that he wants to throw 200 yards a game…but when you have a sophomore tailback without much experience, that’s a risk,” Reeves said.
Parkersburg is currently ranked 11th in the state and could move up with a convincing win this week. But whether or not the Big Reds are victorious, Friday’s game will be an intriguing contest.
