Despite Ohio’s 3-0 loss to Central Michigan in the semifinal round of the Mid American Conference tournament, freshman Chelsea Bilger has something to be proud of after the weekend. The freshmen outside hitter was named to the MAC Volleyball All-Tournament team and stands among some of the best MAC volleyball players of the year.

Other players joining Bilger on the team include: Kara Bates (Ball State), Lauren Wicinski (Northern Illinois), Kristen Hoffman (Northern Illinois), and Kelly Maxwell (Central Michigan). Central Michigan’s Kaitlin Schultz is on the team, and is also the tournament most valuable player.

In her first MAC tournament match, Bilger had 16 kills against rival Miami to help the ‘Cats sweep the RedHawks in the quarterfinals round. Nine of her kills came in the third set, helping Ohio close out the win.

Unfortunately for Ohio, the Chippewas from Central Michigan got the best of best of them in the semifinals round. Yet, Bilger put up more good numbers, tallying 10 kills and six digs for the match.

Ohio will look for more strong performances from Bilger and the rest of their squad when they face Cincinnati on Friday.  The ‘Cats find out their post-season fate on Sunday with the announcement of the seeding for the NCAA tournament.
