A new performance stage at the Vinton County Fairgrounds has been funded with a $100,000 grant from Ohio Cultural Facilities Commission.
Terri Fetherolf, Vinton County Commission development officer, said the stage provides a new professional performance venue.
"There is no other auditorium in the county other than the facility at the high school, what they call the 'cafetorium'," she said.
The community can also use the stage for productions with permission of the County Fair Board and the County Commission, Fetherolf said.
"Whether it's a musical, theatre, or whatever it may be, it's available where we didn't have one before," Fetherolf said. "It was an important project and we really believe it will help the community to have a location for the performing arts."
The Vinton County Fairgrounds is best known for its weeklong Junior Fair held every July that focuses on the county's agricultural heritage. The fair features livestock judging, musical performances, a queen contest and other activities.
The stage is already built. The state commission's approval will allow Vinton County to be reimbursed with state funds.
The Ohio Cultural Facilities Commission is "a state agency that supports economic development, expands educational opportunities, and enhances the quality of life for Ohioans by improving the state's cultural facilities." Since 1988, the agency has approved more than 480 million dollars for more than 300 projects in 72 of Ohio's 88 counties. For more information, visit www.culture.ohio.gov.
