The group Cold War Patriots is having a meeting in Portsmouth today and another one in Jackson tomorrow.

Cold War Patriots is a non-profit organization of and for nuclear weapons workers like the ones at the former Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant.

During the Cold War, nuclear weapons and atomic fuel were produced in Piketon and other plants run by the U.S. government and private companies.

Many employees later became ill due to exposure to radioactive elements, including uranium and plutonium.

Patriots spokeswoman Noel McDonnell says the meetings will provide the employees with information about benefits and services to which they may be entitled.

The Portsmouth meeting is this morning and the one in Jackson is tomorrow afternoon.

Cold War Patriots was started in 2008 as a national network to connect the workers and their families with the information they need to process their claims.
