OU Vice Provost Leaving For UNCF Job
< < Back to ou-vice-provost-leaving-uncf-jobAnother Ohio University administrator will be leaving the school.
OU Vice Provost for diversity, access and equity Brian Bridges announced he has accepted a position at the United Negro College Fund.
Bridges will serve as the fund's Frederick D. Patterson Research Institute executive director. "I think I'll be leaving behind a university that has diversity on its conscience a lot more than it did in the past. I think I'll be leaving behind some good foundational programs that can serve as a strong launching point for the next chief diversity officer who comes in to continue to carry on the culture and climate for diversity and difference and inclusion," said Bridges. "I also believe I leave some colleagues who have developed a passion for this work and who understand they're working to transform knowledge into understanding and passion into action."
Bridges looks forward to the opportunities this job will offer him. "I think there will be opportunities there to expand my consulting role and work as well as my publication work," said Bridges.
Executive Vice President and Provost Pan Benoit said in a press release she regrets Bridges' departure, but recognizes that the new position will make it easier for him to combine family and career. Benoit says she plans to search for a new vice provost during winter quarter.
Until the position is filled, David Descutner, executive vice provost and dean of university college will take on the responsibilities.
Bridges will begin his work at the Patterson Research Institute March 5.
