Football: Bowl Expenses Released
< < Back toFor the second straight year, the postseason bowl trip will not leave the Ohio Athletics Department in the red.
Ohio Athletics released the expenses for the 2011 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl on Tuesday. The total expenses of the trip totaled $486,682.43; the largest expenses included the charter flights ($215,748.78), lodging ($68,204.63), and meals ($55,251.60).
To offset those expenses the Bowl Revenue Distribution brought in $475,000. This distribution is "the payment from the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl to the participating MAC institution (Ohio)." Dan Hauser, Senior Associate Athletic Director for External Operations said.
Hauser also said that "each conference has it’s own unique contract with a bowl game… Utah State’s payment or contract logistics may not match Ohio and/or the MAC."
Ticket sales generated an additional $1,960 and the Athletic Department used $9,722.43 from its post season reserve budget, which according to Hauser, "was established in 2009 to mitigate institutional support for post season appearances. It is only utilized for post season opportunities for any Ohio sport." The reserve budget is included in the university's General Fee.
