Judge Philip Rose has been sworn in as state representative of the 87th House District.

The 87th House District includes all of Vinton, Jackson and Gallia counties as well as portions of Lawrence and Ross.

The seat was left vacant by Representative John Carey.

Rose is from McArthur and agreed to take on the position in the interim until a new representative is elected.

Speaker of the Ohio House William Batchelder says he is looking forward to the opportunity to serve with Judge Rose.

Rose was born in Athens, graduated from Ohio University and earned his doctorate from the University of Cincinnati.

He served in the United States Army and was a special agent for U.S. military intelligence.

Representatives say Rose currently works as an attorney in Wellston and has maintained an extensive legal background.
