Parkersburg Mayor To Veto Budget
< < Back toParkersburg Mayor Bob Newell says he plans to veto a budget passed by city council Tuesday night for the 2012-2013 budget year.
The budget is the same spending plan that was approved by the council earlier this month.
It keeps the floodwall fee the mayor had suggested eliminating last month.
Newell says reducing the storm water item by $500,000 would provide for city employee pay raises.
According to the mayor, the floodwall fee "unfairly targets part of the city's population".
Newell says he plans to hold a special meeting to try to work out differences between his office and council members.
The budget is due in Charleston by the end of the month.
