Homeowners, woodland owners, lumber companies and urban foresters can learn about the risks of urban and woodland trees in a free workshop in Marietta.

OSU Extension Educator for Athens and Meigs Counties Hal Kneen will be teaching how to deter invasive pests like the Emerald Ash Borer and the Asian Longhorn Beetle.

The workshop comes after the Ohio Department of Agriculture earlier this month confirmed the Emerald Ash Borer has been found in Guernsey County.

The department says the invasive species can be found in most of the state, including the Wayne National Forest.

Ohio is under a federal quarantine that makes it illegal for people to move ash trees and hardwood firewood out of the state.

The workshop will take place at the OSU Extension Office in Marietta Tuesday, April 17 from 6 to 8 p.m.  It is free and open to the public. Anyone interested in attending can register at 740-376-7431.
