Softball: Ohio Falls In First MAC Tournament Game
< < Back to softball-ohio-falls-first-mac-tournament-gameOhio fell in its first MAC tournament game of the 2012 season to the defending MAC champion Western Michigan Broncos by a final score of 7-2.
The Bobcats fell behind early in the second round matchup after Western Michigan plated three runs in the top of the first.
Ohio starter Lauren McClary (17-16) struggled on the mound, lasting just three innings and giving up four earned runs while taking the loss.
Meanwhile, the Broncos (27-23) got a great outing from their starter Meredith Whitney (18-12). Ohio (28-28) did not record a hit until the third inning when Erin Lashley connected on a single.
Senior Brooke Morgart got Ohio on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth, drilling her first career home run over the right field wall.
The Bobcats entered the sixth inning down 5-1. Lauren Gellerman singled and reached base safely with her second hit of the game, followed up by a double from Raven King, bringing Gellerman home for another Ohio run.
That was all the offense the Bobcats could muster though, and Western brought across two more insurance runs in the seventh. Courtney Rousseau drilled an RBI double and would later score off of a single from teammate Diana Patterson.
Ohio takes the field once again for MAC tournament play against Kent State in an elimination game Thursday morning at 11 am. The game will once again be played at Akron’s Firestone Stadium.
