Baseball: Marietta College Wins Back-To-Back National Championships
< < Back toMarietta College won the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship on May 30. It was Marietta’s second National Championship in a row.
Marietta's Brian Gasser, the National Pitcher of the Year, threw the championship game for the Etta Express. He tossed a gem in a 7-2 victory over Wheaton.
It was the first time a Division III team had won back-to-back titles since 1979.
The team battled through the loser’s bracket to attain the title. Marietta’s head coach, Brian Brewer, now has as many championships as legendary Marietta coach Don Schaly.
Marietta is losing a strong senior class as eight players are leaving due to graduation. However, Marietta is becoming one of the most respected, if not the most respected, Division III baseball program in the country.
With the perfect combination of tradition and determination, the Etta Express brought home another National Championship to Marietta.
