Half Of Wayne Nat’l Forest Closed
< < Back to half-wayne-natl-forest-closedMost of the Wayne National Forest in southeast Ohio will remain closed this holiday week in the aftermath of Ohio's severe storms.
Forest offices reopened Tuesday, and some Athens- and Marietta-area campgrounds and recreational areas also were reopened.
However, nearly 137,000 acres, or more than half of the forest, remained closed.
The Leith Run Recreation Area will be closed until further notice, and forest officials say those with reservations through Friday will get refunds.
Other popular areas still closed include Wildcat Hollow Hiking Trail and the Kinderhook Horse Trail.
Violating closure orders can result in fines of up to $5,000 for individuals.
