ODNR to Reopen Morgan County Lodge
< < Back to odnr-reopen-morgan-co-lodgeThe Ohio Department of Natural Resources plans to take money that would have been spent tearing down a Morgan County lodge and instead, put the funds toward renovating the facility.
ODNR Director Jim Zehringer made the announcement regarding Burr Oak Lodge and Conference Center Thursday.
Once the Ohio Controlling Board approved the move, ODNR will use the $2 million toward capital improvements.
The Burr Oak Lodge closed in January due to lack of use and poor conditions.
The lodge was Morgan County’s second-largest employer, with 45 full-time staff members.
A hospitality company has agreed to a short-term contract to run the space once it is renovated.
The facility is expected to reopen in September.
The public will have a chance to give their feedback on plans to make Burr Oak State Park a tourism destination.
The Burr Oak State Park covers Athens, Morgan and Perry counties.
