Evans was a patient at the Augusta, Maine Mental Health Institute over 50 years ago. It was at Augusta that Evans witnessed some very unsettling things, including the serious lack of understanding about people suffering from mental illness.
Evans is now involved in a project to recognize and memorialize the patients who died within that hospital. She also describes the hardships her mental illness has caused her throughout her life’s journey.
