Athens Boulder To Be Removed
< < Back to athens-boulder-be-removedThe remaining boulder at an Athens site where another one fell, crushing a house and a car, is expected to be removed by October.
After the Fort Street Rock Fall Emergency Project went to bid on Friday, a winning bid was announced for the removal.
According to Blake Arthur, Abandoned Mine Lands Program in Ohio manager, the winning bid was $118,824.
Arthur says Bud's Inc., an Ohio contractor, will be removing the boulder.
An Ohio Department of Transportation pre-approved specialist from Oregon will be working with the contractor.
Arthur says they are bringing in the Oregon specialist because rock fall removal of this type is a specialty and very few people do it.
